The UK’s leading guided walking holidays’ operator, Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, is offering a fascinating 12 day tour of ancient Sicily including, Selinunte, Agrigento, Syracuse and Palermo.

The holiday begins in the isolated coastal site of the former Greek City at Selinunte – once a great metropolis destroyed by the Carthaginians in 409 BC.

Next, one explores Agrigento, a fine example of medieval Sicily to see the remnants of the ancient Greek city of Akragas.

The tour continues via the medieval hilltop town of Enna and the Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina (housing some of the greatest Roman mosaics in Europe) to the renowned town of Syracuse founded by the Carthaginians in 733 BC.

The final ‘stop’ is the island’s capital Palermo with its many cultural influences. Highlights include, Segesta (famous for its Doric temple and theatre), Monreale (with its Norman-Arab Catherdral) and Solunto (an ancient ruined city on the slopes of Monte Catalfano).

Price from £1,119 per person including return flights, transfers, half-board accommodation in three and four star hotels and the services of a dedicated tour leader.
