Exciting new plans in Merthyr Tydfil's Cyfarthfa Park
Looking for things to do in Merthyr Tydfil? Well, look no further! Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is pleased to announce that on Wednesday 21st of October 2009, planning permission was granted to develop new Leisure and Tourism products in Cyfarthfa Park.
During 2009, as part of the Heads of the Valleys programme for Tourism, Welsh Assembly Government and Convergence money was used to redevelop two of Merthyr Tydfil’s Parks. Work has already been carried out and completed in Parc Taf Bargoed which now houses a Tourist Information & Wardens Kiosk, Canoe Storage, Toilet facilities and environmental works to the area.
The second phase of the project which focuses on Cyfarthfa Park, home to Cyfarthfa Castle, Museum & Art Gallery has been developed with the support of a range of contractors including Hyder Consulting and Capita Symonds.
Plans for Cyfarthfa Park which have now been granted planning permission include a new state of the art Visitor Centre adjacent to Cyfarthfa Castle, which will house a coffee parlour, meeting rooms, security lodge and display area’s for temporary Museum displays.
Adjacent to the Woodland Centre will be the new Family Play Zone. The Family Play Zone will house a Splash Pad which will be a state of the art modern feature in the park which will replace the existing Paddling Pool. Also on site will be a modern playground facility replacing the tired facility the park currently has which has been a popular location for children over the years. The Visitor Centre Café will overlook the Family Play Zone, giving parents a well deserved rest bite with the comfort of knowing their children are playing safely.
It is expected that the agreed plans will encourage locals as well as visitors to the area to enjoy the great outdoors in our County Borough whilst utilizing the park’s assets as part of their daily life.
Work will begin on site in November 2009 with a view of completion of the project in July 2010 in readiness for the Summer.
